AUTISTIC CITY – PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION

Autistic City – Exploring youth different minds unique world is the photographic project born out of the collaboration between Accademia del Lusso and Modelli si Nasce, the first and only association in Italy that prepares autistic children to enter the world of fashion. The exhibition is sponsored by the Department of Rome Capital for Major Events, Tourism, Fashion and Sport.
When and where
The exhibition can be visited from 23 to 28 April 2024 at Palazzo Braschi, Museum of Rome, in Piazza San Pantaleo 10. Free entry every day from 9am to 7pm
A project inspired by Wes Anderson
The protagonists of the "Autistic City" photographic project are the autistic children of Modelli si Nasce. The key inspirations behind the exhibition are the retro atmospheres and pastel colours of director Wes Anderson, famous for his ability to tackle very serious themes with sensitivity and imagination. The aim of the exhibition is to celebrate diversity and build a reality where every individual is free to be themselves. The work was coordinated by Carolina Turra, Styling teacher at Accademia del Lusso, together with the students of the course. Marta Petrucci, fashion photographer, took the shots.
Autism is not a barrier
“This experience was important to us,” - comments Laura Gramigna, director of Accademia del Lusso in Rome, “and it is also important as a message, because it shows that we can collaborate in a professional and profitable way with these splendid young people. It is proof that autism is not a barrier, and that beautiful synergies can be created even in the fashion sector." Silvia Cento, president of Modelli si Nasce, states “The photos in the exhibition are surprising, immediately immersing you in an “Autistic City” that you don't expect. Visitors will finally be able to understand that autism can be a world of colours, beauty, art, and fashion, but above all of abilities and skills. Ability to relate to the camera lens, ability to assume unusual poses, ability to wear complicated and demanding outfits. Abilities and skills acquired by the 29 models, each with different abilities, during the Modelli si Nasce training course, which allowed them to work with ease and make the most of their skills".
