The revolution of style is on display
The exhibition "Fifties in Rome" recalls, through a refined selection of clothes, the unique period of time that has characterized the style of Italian fashion since the 1950s. Thanks to the financial support of the Marshall Plan, the Cinecittà studios became an attractive center for the Hollywood film industry, proclaiming the fusion of Italian high fashion with American cinema and the birth of the Hollywood on the Tiber which, in a very short time, would reach the greatest splendor with La dolce vita and nominate the city of Rome the cradle of haute couture.
Curated by Stefano Dominella
The clothes on display are from Stefano Dominella's private collection and from the historical archive of the Boncompagni Ludovisi Museum.
This is Dominella’s comment of the exhibition: Fashion is not often celebrated in Rome. Yet, from the end of the 1940s, it was precisely in Rome that some of the most talented fashion designers brought their ideas to life with such an artistic flair as to determine the rise and the strenghtening of Made in Italy all over the world. From this perspective, the Fifties in Rome exhibition is a unique opportunity, especially for the younger ones, to see up close the wonders of Italian creativity and handcraft and to admire, among others, the creations of Carosa, Fernanda Gattinoni, Tiziani, Schoubert, Antonelli, Fabiani”.
Boncompagni Ludovisi Museum
The Fifties in Rome exhibition is hosted by the Boncompagni Ludovisi Museum, a space dedicated to Italian costume and fashion of the 19th and 20th centuries, directed by Matilde Amaturo. It is a member of the State Museums Directorate of the city of Rome, directed by Massimo Osanna.
