Accademia del Lusso @ On my skin – Living with GPP
Accademia del Lusso has always been committed to supporting research. This time Accademia has joined the project “On my skin – Living with GPP” by Boehringer Ingelheim, ADOI, SIDeMaST, APIAFCO and OMaR, an alliance created to face the problems related to a rare and disabling disease such as Generalized Pustular Psoriasis (GPP).
In particular, on September 21st, in the splendid setting of the Dynamicart Museum, located in the heart of Milan, Accademia del Lusso partnered the event that inaugurated the “Unwearable Collection” exhibition. It is a collection of sculptures created by the American artist Bart Hess, which visually represent five aspects of the lives of patients with GPP: physical pain, skin rashes, the experience of isolation, the constant threat to life and the sense of uncertainty.
The “impossible” to wear creative concept
The above-mentioned aspects inspired a contest which engaged the students of Accademia del Lusso, who presented the sketches of a dress inspired by the sculptures themselves.
The final result was a collection of clothes "impossible" to wear, which recall both the physical and the psychological symptoms of the disease, such as shame, distancing from social life, depression.
During the evening, the five most original projects in line with the spirit of the contest were displayed. They were chosen by a jury made up of representatives of the Accademia del Lusso, scientific societies and patient representatives, who declared the young designer Francesco Brinetti a winner.
“We are very proud to support such an important cause as raising awareness of GPP. Fashion is not all about clothes, but it can be an important tool for drawing attention and creating buzz on relevant topics, such as health and research. With the students of Accademia del Lusso we wanted to make our contribution by showing, through an explicit and almost brutal visual language, what it means to suffer from this disease.”
Laura Gramigna, Director of Accademia del Lusso
